Greenland Ruby Celebrates the Women of Our Global Team

Happy Women’s History Month from Greenland Ruby

March 8th is celebrated around the world as International Women’s Day, a time of reflection and commemoration of the contributions made by women today and throughout history. Since the 1980s the United States, United Kingdom and Australia have declared the entire month of March as Women’s Month.

Join us in celebrating Women’s History Month with a look at the incredible women who work at Greenland Ruby to bring our responsibly sourced rubies and pink sapphires to you.

From our mine, through processing, cutting, sorting, marketing and sales, our small global team employs a total of 31 women, each with their own passion and energy working together to bring our gems to a market.

Women working in the Greenland mines

Women at the Mine in Aappaluttoq – Greenland

The journey of our gems starts in Aappaluttoq, in the southwest of Greenland where the 3 billion year old ruby material is mined and processed. More than a third of the Greenlandic people working our mine are women, braving the elements every day to carefully source and process the prime gem material.

“I enjoy working at the mine in Aappaluttoq with a great community of men and women dedicated to carefully mining and processing the ruby deposit.” Aappaluttoq Mine

“Aappaluttumi piiaavimmi sulineq nuannareqaara. Angutit arnallu suleqatigiilluarlutik piiaaffimmi rubininik piiaaneq isumannaatsumik ingerlanneqarmat.” Aappaluttumi piiaavik

“Our showroom in Nuuk is really a great place to work, meeting customers and tourists and getting to tell the story of these 3 billion years old rubies and pink sapphires” Camilla Lennert – Nuuk Shop

”Nuummi pisiniarfipput suliffigissallugu nuanneqaaq, pisiniat takornariallu sullillugit aammalu rubinit safirillu 3 billion-inik pisoqaassusillit oqaluttuassartai oqaluttuarissallugit nuannertaqaaq.” Camilla Lennert – Nuummi pisiniarfik

Women in Production – Bangkok

Following the story of our Greenlandic rubies and pink sapphires, the corundum crystals are sorted and graded in our office in Bangkok, Thailand. Our studious team of women sorters take care that each and every gemstone is ready to be set in your jewelry.

“I enjoy working here because the co-workers and management team are a pleasure and make it enjoyable to come to work.”

Women in Sales – Paris

Gorgeous cut and polished rubies and sapphires, in all shapes and sizes, are in the great hands of our all-women sales team in Paris. Led by Managing Director Aricie de Sainte Preuve, the team works directly with brands and jewelers as well as designers through RubyCloud™.

“The gemstones from Greenland are truly an incredible find and getting to be part of the team bringing them to the market is great delight. I was lucky to work in Bangkok for 2 years and a half and learned a lot from all the women in the office, invaluable insights for our sales team.”

“Les pierres précieuses du Groenland sont vraiment une découverte incroyable de part leur localisation géographique ainsi que leur histoire. Le fait de faire partie de Greenland Ruby depuis le début m’a permis de suivre l’évolution de la production minière. J’ai eu la chance de travailler à Bangkok près de deux ans et j’ai beaucoup appris de toutes les femmes qui travaillent avec le matériel brut ainsi que les pierres taillées.”
Aricie de Sainte Preuve, Managing Director of Sales

“While I’ve only recently joined the team, working with a company like Greenland Ruby that not only cares for its customers but also for the environment and the population that’s at the source of our gems, it’s really gratifying.”

“J’ai récemment rejoins l’équipe, mais travailler pour Greenland Ruby qui se soucie non seulement de ses clients mais aussi de l’environnement et de la population qui sont à l’origine de nos gemmes, c’est vraiment gratifiant.”
Magalie Abada, E-commerce Executive

Women in Marketing – New York

Though traditionally, marketing has not always been a part of the thousand years old gemstone industry, it is an integral part in telling the story of these rare rubies and pink sapphires. Based in New York, our all-women marketing team goes above and beyond to help retailers to tell the fascinating journey each Greenlandic gem takes until it reaches your jewelry piece.

“It is inspiring to work with an incredible team of smart and brilliant women from all over the world! Our teams are committed to bringing a new and responsible source of ruby and pink sapphire to a consumer who cares as much as we do.”
Hayley Henning, CCO

“Working for an organization that not only has such an innovative approach to telling the story of the Greenlandic gems but is also committed to responsible sourcing, environmental protection and social responsibility, is truly refreshing”
Andreea Predescu, Community and Client Relations Manager

It is not an exaggeration to say that though the jewelry industry is still mostly dominated by men in C-Suite positions, women shaped the industry as it is today and will continue to influence it.
